Our journey in 2014-2015 season was amazing, humbling, and enlightening.
Please take some time to look at our videos, pictures and read our story below from this season...
Our rookie experience with FTC has been an overwhelming positive experience. We have all been very impressed with the FIRST program. It was difficult at first trying to figure out how the program worked; however, the materials we were given and the website helped us work through the process. Throughout this season, we have learned many new skills and how a team can come together to create positive results.
We will all be forever changed from this experience!
September - December 2014 - Our team came together. Two of our coaches and their two children had prior experience working with the FIRST FLL program. Everyone else was new to the FIRST program. We spent a lot of time developing our team by creating a team name, logo, and figuring out what needed to be accomplished. While we were waiting on parts, we spent a lot of time on marketing. Eventually, we started to build and program our robot. Soon it was time to compete in our first competition...The Bedford Express FTC Qualifier.
December 12-13, 2014 - Click here for the Bedford FTC Qualifier Awards Report What an amazing first experience! Even though other teams expressed to us during our practices what a great job we were doing, we never dreamed to come out of our first event with so many honors:
Motivate Award Finalist, Control Award Finalist, Think Award Finalist, Inspire Award, and Winning Alliance Award
We were advanced to the Michigan FTC Championship in Battle Creek...
January 9-10, 2014 - Click here for the MI FTC Championship Awards Report This was another humbling event for us. We are very proud to have represented our school so well at this competition. With gracious professionalism, we were able to come away from this event with many more honors:
Control Award and First Runner Up for the Inspire Award
We are now advancing to the FTC North Super Regional Championship in Iowa...
March 26-28, 2015 - We will update you on our progress soon!
We could not have been as successful this season without all of the help we received. Thank you to the state of Michigan for offering grants to get our team started. Those grants were sponsored by United Therapeutics, FedEx, and the Center for Energy Workforce Development (PG&E, NextEra/FPL, Consumers Energy, National Grid, Southern, Edison International, MidAmerican, Ameren, and Duke Energy). We are very thankful to Bedford Public Schools for providing us with space and equipment. Thank you to the Bedford Express FRC team 1023 for providing us with a very dedicated high school mentor, Matthew Stewart, and all of the patient guidance provided from Coach Debbie May. In addition, we are very thankful to all of our community sponsors who donated money. We want you to know that that money was well spent. We (coaches, mentors, parents, and students) have grown in our understanding of not only robotics but all of the skills students need to be college and career ready. We feel that the students involved in FIRST will help our state and country continue to lead in business and industry to strengthen our economy. Last, but certainly not least, we would like to thank all of our coaches, mentors, and parents. Your positive attitudes, willingness to work with kids, and dedication to our team surpassed expectations. We know that our rookie team will continue to stand the test of time because we have worked hard to establish our name in our community as well as a system to support our team well into the future.
